grand plans for outdoor spaces

Welcome

Like any home renovation project, tackling your garden can be a bit daunting. From decisions about what paving to choose, to how big your terrace should be, and to choosing the right plants that will thrive. Where do you start?

Creating anything new should be exciting and fun and even more so if you’re investing a chunk of your hard earned cash.  Working with a professional designer may feel a little frivolous but I can honestly say, hand on heart, that it will save you money in the long run.

Over the years I’ve helped numerous home owners to transform their gardens into inspiring spaces that they want and love to spend time in.  Your garden should make your heart sing - get the design right and it will have the power to do just that!

People work with me because of my collaborative approach to design and my ability to get the best use out of their garden in a way that is practical but that also resonates with their personal style, the site and the garden’s surroundings. I am very passionate about getting the design right.

I look forward to working with you!

Gardens

Below is a selection of the gardens I've created with my clients.  They range from large informal family spaces to smaller city courtyards but they've all been designed to ensure that they relate to the architecture of the house, the landscape beyond the boundaries and to inspire the people they have been created for.

Having recently moved from Surrey to Monmouthshire you'll notice that the majority of my projects are in London and the South East.  My move to South Wales has been amazing in so many ways and if I need a lift or creative burst, the view from our garden never fails to inspire me.

My design style has certainly evolved since we have been here and I particularly love creating generous and free-flowing gardens that are very much in touch with the surrounding landscape.

About me

about me

I’ve been designing for almost ten years and over that time I’ve worked with many clients and many different gardens.

I’m an RHS award-winning designer at both Cardiff and Chelsea flower shows and I’m also a registered member of the Society of Garden Designers, having passed the only professional adjudication process for garden designers in the UK.

Having spent many years working in the City, designing gardens is a second career for me. I love to be creative, but I can't quite shake off my exposure to the corporate world and being professional is really important to me. I'm also passionate about good communication, which I think is absolutely key to any successful project.

I work with professional landscapers and specialist craftspeople to help bring my designs to life and I like to work in a collaborative way to ensure that you feel part of your new garden from the very first moment of its creation.

Design Philosophy

Design Philosophy

My philosophy

Gardens are so often undervalued as an additional living space.  I think in the UK this has something to do with our rather unpredictable weather, but most gardens are at least the size of the footprint of the house, many are even bigger, so it’s absolutely crazy not to use the space.

A garden that has been designed specifically for you will change the way you feel about your home.  It will enhance the way you live and also add financial value to your property.

A good design will not only make the most of the space you have, including all the practical things like eating out, storing the wheelie bins, hiding the lawnmower, it will also reflect your personal style and the things that inspire you.

You should feel connected to your garden even when you’re viewing it from afar, looking through the window on a cold winter’s day.  It should draw you outside whatever the weather and make you long for the summer months to reappear.

Your garden should ignite your passion and remind you of good times.  And whether you’re inspired by nature, walking along a beach or visiting a bustling city, it’s absolutely possible to create a space that does this.

A great garden will change the way you feel about your home!

Design Inspiration

Design inspiration

I'm at my most inspired when I'm outside, especially when I have my camera in hand.  Some how when you look through the lens of a camera you see things in a closer and more intimate way.  It could be the way the light is catching the leaves of a plant or highlighting an interesting pattern or texture on the side of a building or it could just be a beautiful rose with the most perfect blooms.

Finding time to go outside is really important to me.  I'm so lucky to be living in the most amazing location, on the side of a hill in Monmouthshire where we have the most amazing view to the Black Mountains.  It really does make my heart sing!

I wanted to share a small selection of the images that have fed my inspiration.  You'll notice that often it's not about walking around other peoples gardens.  I love architecture, materials, textures and light.
